Effective Technology Integration

As a result of participating and fully engaging in all of the interactive sessions, the participants will have a breadth of knowledge regarding the effective integration of technology in their classroom to improve student achievement.

Session 1 - Effective Technology Integration
After watching the Core Knowledge video on effective technology integration, educators will reflect on their current integration of technology in the classroom, focusing on the four keys to successful technology integration. Educators will assess their own technology skill and comfort level and create a personal learning agenda. Session 2 -Technology Implementation & Instructional Curriculum
By examining an example of effective technology integration, educators will understand how effective implementation of technology dramatically alters the entire context of learning. The case study will offer educators insight into the value of authentic pedagogy and modern technology tools to improve student engagement and achievement. Session 3 -Technology as an Assessment Tool
Beginning with the end in mind, educators will learn to evaluate formative and summative assessment technology tools. Online quizzes, interactive modules, rubric creation tools, digital portfolios, and student-created authoring tools will be explored.

Session 4 - Telecollaborative Learning
Participants will understand the educational value of telecollaborative learning for students and teachers. The theoretical framework will also be examined through a review of successful telecollaborative projects. Session 5 & 6 - Technology to address Learning Styles I & II
Using Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences as a framework, educators will understand how a variety of technology tools promote and support differentiated learning. Concept mapping, dynamic simulations, databases, spreadsheets, and digital storytelling are examples of some of the tools and applications to be explored. Session 7 -Copyright & Digital Citizenship
Educators will discuss the importance of understanding copyright laws and computer ethics. Educators will develop strategies to promote digital citizenship and to manage issues that will arise with increased, seamless technology use. Session 8 - Telecollaborative Learning II
After educators have participated in a telecollaborative project, additional strategies and practices to ensure successful implementation of telecollaborative learning will be discussed. Educators will also understand the development process required to design their own telecollaborative project, emphasizing the role of students as designers.
